After returning from a few years living in Australia in his mid 20’s, Digby ventured into a position with an electronic security and fire alarm company and the next 15 years was spent in this industry, both working for others and running his own alarm installation company.
After deciding on an industry change, Digby spent 4 years managing a Hawkes Bay-based Poultry company, setting up and managing a sales and distribution branch in Auckland for them.
An option opened as Sales manager in a growing packaging company, based on Auckland’s North Shore and it was there that he identified some areas of the packaging industry that were not being represented by any local New Zealand companies and in the year 2000 Digby & Leigh founded D&L Packaging.
Since 2000, Digby has become the go-to person for Shrink Label Application systems and Shrink Sleeve Labels in New Zealand and has worked with the same leading shrink sleeve & machinery company in Taiwan for the entire time in business.
Now surrounded by a great team of people (including his wife and his son) the two companies are run side by side, which means we are able to specialise in different areas of the New Zealand packaging market.
Outside of work, Digby is a keen open water swimmer and has competed in a number of national competitions and once in the world master’s games for both open water & pool swimming.
Digby is also an active member of Red Beach surf life-saving club and often competes in both Northern and national championships. While also patrolling at Red Beach & Pakiri.
Digby’s other two sporting passions are Rugby and the Aussie V8 supercars.
On fine weekends, Digby & Leigh enjoy driving their American muscle car and spending time with family (grandchildren) and friends.
